The Call

There was LOTS of support from friends and family when Douglas opened his call.  Our house was PACKED!

Mason and mom got the call from the mailbox while Douglas was at school.

Douglas was very emotional when he read his call...Mexico Mexico City Southeast Mission!  I can't imagine the feelings an 18-year-old boy has when he learns he will go to a foreign country for 2 years.  I suspect he was a bit overwhelmed.

An interesting side note:  Douglas chose to study Spanish in school.  He was not always the most organized and dedicated student.  At one point, he was far enough behind that he wanted to quit the class for fear of failing and not making grades for baseball.  Russell and I felt strongly that he need to stick it out and learn the lesson of perseverance.  When we realized he would serve a Spanish-speaking mission, we were reminded that God knows us each very individually.

Baseball buddies.  Most of these boys are not even members of our church.  Four of them ended up serving missions.
